Betty J. Collier Hemphill

Betty J. Collier Hemphill, 93, of Chicora died peacefully at Saxony Health Center in Saxonburg Wednesday.

Born July 8, 1923, in Chicora, she was the daughter of Ross Collier and Mae Iman Collier.

She graduated from Millerstown High School in 1942. She then worked for several years at Spade Shirt Factory in Butler and in the lab at Koppers in Petrolia.

She married Lee W. Hemphill Aug. 27, 1947. Lee passed away Feb. 28, 2008.

She was a homemaker most of her life. The home Betty resided at on Fairmont Road had special meaning to her because it was built by her father Ross Collier. She was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church in Chicora. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, camping, casino trips and playing the organ.

Surviving are two daughters, Judith A. Hindman and her husband William E. of Butler, Deborah L. Rice and her husband Thomas E. of Chicora; three grandsons, Thomas E. Rice III and his wife Christine of Chicora, Benjamin L Rice and his wife Jennifer of Butler and Eric W. Hindman of Butler; four great-grandchildren, Emelia, Grant and Christopher Rice of Chicora and Benjamin Rice Jr. of Butler; step-great-grandchild Alex Turberville of Butler; her sister-in-law, Ellen Collier of Chicora; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband of 60 years and parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Collier and William Collier of Chicora; and a sister Joan Collier Hemphill of Chicora.

HEMPHILL — The will be no visitation for Betty J. Collier Hemphill, who died Wednesday, June 7, 2017.A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Mater Dolorosa Church, 109 N. Main St., Chicora.Interment will follow in Hemphill Cemetery, Chicora.Arrangements are being handled by Steighner Funeral Home, Chicora.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for masses for Betty or donations may be made to Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 409 N.
