Joseph E. “Joe” Horner

Joseph E. “Joe” Horner, 90, of Parker entered eternal rest with Jesus Christ at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following an extended illness.

Born in Dutch Hill on April 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Roy A. and Blanche Keefer Horner.

Following graduation from the former Parker High School, he entered the U.S. Navy with service in Puerto Rico from April 1945 with honorable discharge in August 1946.

He then began 34 years of employment with the former Glass Container Corp. of Parker. Following the plant closure, he did custodial employment with the A.C. Valley School District at Foxburg and the U.S. Post Office at Parker.

Joe's favorite avocation was painting homes in Parker and surrounding areas. Because of his attention to detail and his care for the work, he was long sought after for his expertise in the painting field.

Joe was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Parker. Just weeks ago, he received his 70-year membership pin with the Legion.

He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Parker where he had served as elder and trustee.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa (Gary) Hunker of North Apollo; two sons, Brad (Janice) Horner and Gary Horner, all of Parker; five grandchildren, Taylor, Shayla and Lexie Hunker, Brian (Rachel) Horner, and Kristen (Andy) Smith; four great-grandchildren: Marissa Smith, Madelyn Horner, Kendra Smith, and Andie Arblaster; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arvella “Pose” Kriebel Horner, whom he married July 21, 1950, and who passed away Feb. 3, 2008.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille “Celie” Horner Trill; a brother, David E. “Ed” Horner; a sister, Audrey at birth; and a brother, Russell in youth.

HORNER — Friends of Joseph E. “Joe” Horner who died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Wayne Ave., Parker.Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev.
