Gary V. Cunningham
Gary V. Cunningham, 76, a lifetime resident of Grove City, passed away, Saturday morning in Grove City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Gary was born March 16, 1941, in Grove City, to the late H. Glenn and Carlotta Kerns Cunningham. He married Judith “Judy” A. Graf on May 2, 1964.
He was a graduate of Grove City High School in the Class of 1959. Following high school, he attended Grove City College from 1959 to 1961 and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, Class of 1962.
At that time he entered into business with his father and older brother and was later joined by his younger brother. Together they expanded the business to Mercer, Pa., in 1974. Gary served the community as a funeral director for 54 years and formerly operated the local ambulance service with both his brothers until 1974.
Gary was a member of the East Main Presbyterian Church, F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge 603, New Castle Consistory, Zem Zem Shrine and the BPO Elks. In his younger years, he was active with Grove City Jaycees, The Grove City Optimist Club and coached midget football and basketball.
He enjoyed fishing and playing golf, but mostly Gary enjoyed interacting with others and making people happy with his kindness and great sense of humor.
Gary is survived by his wife, Judy at home; his son, John Cunningham of Grove City; two granddaughters, Alaina and Kayla Cunningham; and his grandson, Ethan, all of Grove City; his brother, Larry K. “Joe” Cunningham of Mercer; three nephews, Mark, Michael and Greg Cunningham; and one niece, Jill McCandless Cunningham, and their families.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his brother, H. Lee Cunningham; and two sisters-in-law, Delores J. Cunningham and Kay E. Cunningham.
CUNNINGHAM — Visitation hours for Gary V. Cunningham, who died Saturday, June 3, 2017, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Willard Morse officiating.Burial will be at the Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
Memorials in Gary’s memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
