Harvey McDowell

Harvey McDowell, 89, a lifetime resident of Wolf Creek Township, Grove City, passed away peacefully Thursday at his home.

Harvey was born Feb. 19, 1928, at the family home to Gilbert G. and Nina Kennedy McDowell. He graduated from Sandy Lake High School in 1946. He began his career in custom farming. In 1951, he established his business, McDowell Implement Co.

He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher. He was a former member of the board of the Great Stoneboro Fair and helped develop the center field of the fairgrounds. He was a member of the former Grove City Kiwanis Club.

Harvey enjoyed socializing with friends and strangers alike. His favorite activities were dancing, hunting and spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Garrett, whom he married Feb. 12, 1955; three sons, David McDowell and his wife, Anna, William McDowell and his wife, Lee Ann, and John McDowell and his wife, Vonnie, all of Grove City; his daughter, Judy Thropp of Grove City; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, William McDowell and his wife, Elinor, of Hermitage.

In addition to his parents, one infant brother, Charles Edwin McDowell, preceded Harvey in death.

MCDOWELL — Visitation hours for Harvey McDowell, who died Thursday, June 1, 2017, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, 2426 Scrubgrass Road, Grove City, with the Rev. Joe Tagliaferre officiating. Burial will be at Union Home Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made in Harvey's memory to Union Home Cemetery Association, c/o Eric Jamison, 3097 Chardonnay Lane, Youngstown, Ohio, 44514.
