BUTLER TWP — A series of vehicle break-ins were reported to police this morning.

Butler Township police officer Bob Murphy said Saturday morning that the department received several reports of cars being broken into on Dutchtown and Windmill roads, as well as on September Drive.

He estimated that the break-ins happened between late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

An owner's manual and the receipt for the vehicle were taken from inside of a Toyota Tundra on September Drive, the vehicle's owner said.

Wires for the Tundra's tow package also were taken. Other items from the Tundra, including the owner's insurance card, were found on the surrounding streets. The owner said he could see footprints in the wet grass near the vehicle.

A pocket knife and $11 in cash also were taken from another vehicle. Police said the vehicles that were broken into were left unlocked.

“People need to lock their cars, even if they're parked in their driveway,” Murphy said. “If you don't want (valuables) stolen, don't leave it in your car.”

Bill McClintock, of 156 Dutchtown Road, said his vehicle was broken into and that speakers for his phone were taken.

Police also said they expect to receive more reports of break-ins throughout the day.
