Kay L. Rice

Kay L. Rice passed away Saturday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler after a fight with cancer.

She was born April 28, 1946, at Butler Hospital, to the late Floyd and Edna Feil Greenawalt.

She married the late Robert “Bob” Rice on May 9, 1966. They enjoyed the races, camping and traveling. They lived in Callery before moving to Florida to retire. Kay moved to Mars after Bob's death to be beside her family. Kay loved doing things for her daughters, Tammy (Tom) Winkle of Mars and Roberta “Sue” Rice (Jay) Hancherick of Ellwood City; and her grandchildren, who called her “Kayma,” Casey (Kathy Gross) Winkle of Butler, Danielle Winkle of Mars and Shannon Hancherick of Ellwood City.

Kay liked sewing, cooking and baking for her family and friends. She always spoke her mind, even if it was too harsh toward you; her favorite line was, “Never stop a good story because of a relationship.”

She also leaves behind her siblings, Sandra (Sonny) Myers of Slippery Rock, Floyd Greenawalt Jr. of Butler, Terri (Matt) Amedeo of West Virginia, Judy (Ray) McGlew of Pottstown, Janet (Mike) Scheitle of Virginia, Robin (Bernie) Hauger of Greensburg, Fred Greenawalt of West Virginia and Kimberly Nine of Harmony; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Norma J. Rice of Evans City, who gave her daily checkup calls.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the women at the VNA Hospice for all their care, laughs and friendship shown and a thanks to Judy for being a true friend until the end.

RICE — As per the wishes of Kay L. Rice, who died Saturday, May 27, 2017, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be at the Evans City Cemetery.All arrangements are entrusted to BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 116 E.
