Howard “Jake” Claypoole Jr.

Howard “Jake” Claypoole Jr., 89, of New Castle passed away on Tuesday at his residence.

Born June 4, 1927, in Butler County, he was the son of Howard Claypoole Sr. and Myrtle Ace Claypoole.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Claypoole. He subsequently married Alvadia Claypoole on Sept. 12, 2011.

Jake was employed with City Asphalt for 34 years until his retirement at age 62.

He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to his second wife, he is survived by two daughters, Myrtle Callen and Helen Jean Keidel of New Castle; a stepdaughter, Joleine Oliver of Ohio; one son, Ronald Claypoole Sr. of New Castle; one brother, Charles Claypoole of Butler; 50 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; and 100 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Florence Burk; and one stepdaughter, Bessie Stoner.

CLAYPOOLE — Visitation for Howard “Jake” Claypoole Jr., who died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rebecca Hudak, chaplain for Hospice of the Valley, officiating.Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.Online condolences may be offered at www.cunninghamfh.com.
