Charles J. McPherson

Charles J. McPherson, 71, of Butler, died Friday at his home.

Born April 29, 1946, in Kittanning, he was a son of the late Ralph McPherson and Eula Snyder McPherson.

Charles was a retired train engineer from the Armco Steel Plant in Butler, following 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 117, the VFW Post 249, and was a life member of both the DAV and the Vietnam Veterans of America. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved his dogs.

A combat veteran deployed to the Vietnam War on Dec. 19, 1967, he served with the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude L. Wilson McPherson, who he married June 16, 1972; two daughters, Michelle (Jason) Sims and Kelly (Dennis, Jr.) Randolph, both of Butler; two grandchildren, Shannon Sims and Adam Ruediger; one great-grandson, Jordan Ruediger; two brothers, Ronald (Margaret) McPherson and John (Bonnie) McPherson, both of Butler; two sisters, Connie (Don C.) McElhaney and Marg (Don) Covert, both of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Richard McPherson.

MCPHERSON — Friends of Charles J. McPherson, who died Friday, May 19, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Krajacic, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Coylesville.
