Prison gets 100% rating from safety inspectors
The Butler County Prison received a 100 percent rating from certified inspectors for the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act.
Warden Joe DeMore said in an interview the compliance checks are to ensure security for prisoners.
“They are making sure the inmates are safe,” he said.
Out of 42 categories, the prison exceeded seven federal standards. The prison met the other 35.
The rating improved from last year’s inspection, which was the first conducted here, in which four standards were exceeded.
Sheriff Mike Slupe, county prison board chairman, said the board is commending DeMore for achieving those results.
