John C. Murphy Jr.

John C. Murphy Jr., 82, of Butler passed away Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born July 2, 1934 in Tamaqua, Pa., he was a son of the late John C. Murphy Sr. and Cecilia McHugh Murphy.

He was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was employed by the Butler Area School District in the boiler department. He retired in July 1996 after 22 years of service.

John and his wife, Joan, enjoyed traveling in their motor home and the many camping experiences they had with their family.

Surviving is his wife, Joan Kildoo Murphy, whom he married Dec. 27, 1958; and four daughters, Catherine (Kenneth) Metrick, the Rev. Connie (Dr. Harold) Dunn, Joyce (Kenneth) Laughlin and Jacqueline (Dr. Matthew) DiPippa, all of Butler. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Amy, Laura, Kati, Meghann, Rebekah, Harold Jr., Nichole, Luke, Sarah, Rachel, Michele, Joshua, Alyssa, Julianna and Elana, all of Butler; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Roberta Varrasso; and a brother, Daniel (Joan) Murphy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Cecilia Taucher, Joan DeAugustino, Bernice Parkes and Patricia McGowan; and his brother, Robert Murphy.

MURPHY — Friends of John C. Murphy Jr., who died Monday, May 15, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.
