CRANBERRY TWP — A Westmoreland County man is charged with assault after allegedly fighting with a Giant Eagle employee over some steaks.

Dylan Sunseri, 25, of Vandergrift attempted to leave the Giant Eagle on Route 19 with 10 rib-eye and strip steaks without paying for them, according to court papers.

According to the affidavit, around 11 p.m. on Feb. 16 Josh Maltz, loss prevention officer for Giant Eagle, said he saw Sunseri exit the store through the pharmacy doors with a shopping basket full of steaks valued at $257.74.

Maltz identified himself as the loss prevention officer and grabbed the basket of steaks from Sunseri. Sunseri pulled the basket away, and the two began to struggle over the beef, police said.

At some point during the scuffle, Sunseri picked Maltz up in the air and slammed him into the pavement. Sunseri then fled on foot and got into a blue Honda Civic operated by a female driver.

The vehicle registration was traced to a home in Wexford, where Sunseri also lived.

Sunseri was charged with felony robbery and criminal conspiracy, simple assault and retail theft. He waived all charges to county court Friday, where he'll be arraigned on July 25.
