Homicide suspect pleaded for victim to return in online posts

A man accused of shooting his girlfriend to death posted to social media days after the alleged crime while the woman was still missing, pleading for her safe return.

Ishemer Ramsey, 21, of Lyndora, is charged with homicide and tampering with physical evidence after he was accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Melissa Barto, in his car on June 8.

Ramsey is also accused of transporting her body to rural Lawrence County and setting it on fire.

Barto's family shared several social media posts asking for information on her whereabouts, while at the same time on Ramsey's Facebook page, several posts were made on June 9 and 10, regarding her disappearance.

Those posts included:

• “Anybody seen or heard from Missy Barto? We're all worried about you. Share please,” on June 9;

• “Any word on Mellissa yet? (Missy Barto)” on June 10; and

• “Missy Barto. Just come home... Whatever is going on there's way to many of us trying to help for you to not let us. 'I got your six. It's not just you or me we got a team now' remember that? Please come home... You know who you love more than anyone.. She needs you.”

Ramsey was later arrested and charged on June 11.

The page states that he worked at Summit Academy as a counselor and football coach. Dick Roberts, spokesman for Summit Academy, confirmed that Ramsey was a staff member for four months, since March, and his last day was the day before the alleged crime, June 7.

Ramsey was listed on active duty between April 4, 2016, and Oct. 14, 2016, with the Marine Corps Reserve, according to a status report pursuant to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act provided by the Department of Defense Manpower Data Center, which reports active duty service personnel.

A full report will appear in Wednesday's Butler Eagle.
