Benjamin J. Byrer

Benjamin J. Byrer, 98, of Middlesex Township, died Wednesday.

Born March 1, 1919, in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late Clark and Grayce Remellet Byrer.

He was the beloved husband of the late Violet Senjan Byrer; the loving father of Lili J. Byrer of Gibsonia; the brother of the late Rosemary Noll, Patricia Bush, Barbara Wengerd and Donald, Richard and William Byrer; and proud grandfather of R. Ian Kelly of Gibsonia.

A veteran, Ben served during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps 3rd Marine Division. Ben went on to become a renowned artist throughout Pittsburgh and across the U.S. He illustrated Merrie Olde Middlesex, a historical anthology of the township, and created much of the artwork in the Buhl Planetarium.

BYRER — A Mass of Christian burial for Benjamin J. Byrer, who died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Holy Sepulcher Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Cedolia, celebrant.Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life of Ben and Violet from 1 to 4 p.m. June 17 in the Hertiage Hall of the Glade Run United Presbyterian Church. All are welcome to join in a remembrance of their love of community, service and friendship.In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E.
