Mary L. Kenyon
Mary L. Kenyon, 95, of Ligonier, Pa., died Saturday in the comfort of her own home assisted by the prayers and love of her family.
She was born April 14, 1922, in Trafford, Pa., a daughter of the late Harry and Hannah Wynn Gethin.
Before her retirement, she had been employed as a registered nurse for more than 35 years, having worked for many area nursing homes and hospitals.
She was a member of the Pioneer Presbyterian Church. Mary was a woman of great faith. She was known to many through the years as “Momma K.” There was always room in her heart and house for “one more.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Walter R. Kenyon, in 1999; her son, Dr. Walter Wynn Kenyon, in 2012; two sisters; and one brother.
Mary is survived by 10 children, Marion (Ken) Sukanovich of Lower Burrell, Ginger (David) Hahn of Shippensburg, Gwen Ken-yon of Ligonier, Mary Kenyon of Jackson, Miss., Arthur “Ozzie” Kenyon of Jackson, Miss., Henry “Hank” (Martha) Kenyon, the Rev. David R. (Sheila) Kenyon, and Chaplain Lt. Col. John (Izzie) Kenyon, all of Ligonier, William (Lynn) Kenyon of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Keith Kenyon of Butler; her daughter-in-law, Jinny Kenyon of Jackson, Miss.; 35 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
KENYON — Friends and family of Mary L. Kenyon, who died Saturday, May 6, 2017, will gather together from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel, 144 E. Main St., Ligonier.
A service to celebrate her life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church with her sons, the Rev. David Kenyon and the Rev. John Kenyon, co-officiating. Interment will follow at the Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 240 W. Main St., Ligonier, PA 15658.
