Marie L. Wissman
Marie L. Wissman, 98, a longtime resident of Butler, passed away Wednesday at the Newhaven Court.
Marie, born in 1919 in Canton, Ohio, was the daughter of Lewis Wissman and Caroline Steinheiser. She grew up in North Pittsburgh before moving to Butler as a teenager and graduating from Butler High School. She was a bookkeeper and secretary at American Bantam Car Co. during World War II before moving on to, and retiring from, Peoples Telephone Co.
She was very involved with the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a charter member. She served faithfully with the Women’s Service Group and actively participated in Bible studies and prayer chains during her 42 years of membership. She was also a Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years.
Marie enjoyed passing time with friends over board and card games. She was a dedicated walker, a pastime that kept her fit and active well into her elderly years.
Marie was preceded in death by her sister, Stella Watterson; and brother, Robert Wissman. She is survived by her nephews, Rodney Watterson of Hampton, N.H., and Robert Wissman Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; and her niece, Cathy Able of Myrtle Beach, S.C.
WISSMAN — Friends and family of Marie L. Wissman, who died Wednesday, May 3, 2017, may pay their respects from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church. A private burial will take place at the Greenlawn Burial Estates.
