CRANBERRY TWP — The Pens loss against the Nashville Predators in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night could not dampen the spirits of the kids at Camp Cranberry summer camp in North Boundary Park.

Campers ages 4 to 12 assembled around an oversized “GO PENS” message painted on the hillside above the Waterpark Tuesday morning to show their support for the team as the Pens continue their run toward the championship. Camp counselors led the energetic children in a “Let's go Pens” chant as they lined up.

“For us this is fun to see,” said Rich Hixon, president of UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. “It's a testament to how the community has embraced the Penguins.”

Hixon and other local officials came out to see the display and take photos. The township public works department spent an hour and a half early Tuesday morning painting the giant letters in black and gold.

The campers were from the Adventure Camp and Pee Wee Camp at Camp Cranberry, a series of weekly summer camps held throughout the summer run by the township Parks and Recreation department.

Camp counselors Lindsay Zuccaro and Megan Wise, both of Cranberry, said the campers, especially the older ones, are excited about the series.

Zuccaro predicted the Pens will take the Cup in six games. Wise said seven games.

“Hopefully they'll play well at home,” Zuccaro said.
