The Rev. James G. Lockhart

The Rev. James G. Lockhart, 74, died peacefully Saturday at home after a short illness.

He was the beloved husband of Sally Benson Lockhart for 52 years. They lived together at 19 Miles Ave., Tiverton, R.I., for the last 17 years.

Jim was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Pittsburgh.

He was predeceased by his parents, George Lockhart, Willis Black and Clara Schonefeld Black; and two of his six siblings, Carol Maise and James Black.

His surviving siblings include, Judy Deahl of Butler, Bill Lockhart of New Castle, Dianne Burke of Wayland, Mass., and Merry Snyder of Denver, Colo.

Jim was the proud father of Todd Lockhart of East Providence, R.I., and Jeffery Lockhart and his wife, Sarah Lockhart, of Warwick, R.I.

He is survived by his three beloved grandchildren, Luke, James Peter “JP” and Lilly Lockhart.

Jim graduated from Butler High School in 1961, Westminster College in 1965 and Pittsburgh Seminary in 1968.

During his career as a minister in the Presbyterian Church USA, he served as pastor to Grand Island Presbyterian Church, Oakwood Avenue Presbyterian Church in Troy N.Y., and Barrington Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Presbytery of Southern New England. After his retirement, he faithfully attended Providence Presbyterian Church.

He loved God and was loved by many.

LOCKHART — A memorial service for the Rev. James G. Lockhart died Saturday, April 29, 2017, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Providence Presbyterian Church, 500 Hope Ave., Providence, R.I.

His family has asked, in lieu of flowers, to make a donation to the Memorial Fund at Providence Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Smith-Mason Funeral Home, Riverside, R.I.
