Harold Glenn Burke
Harold Glenn Burke, 85, of Emlenton went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday due to an auto accident.
He was born Nov. 8, 1931, the second child of the late Paul A. and Minnie C. Dally Burke.
He attended the one-room Rockdale School and graduated from the class of 1950 of Emlenton High School, where he had played football.
Harold served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Korean War.
He married Joanne M. Burnside June 15, 1957, at United Methodist Church in Tidioute. They lived on a farm outside Tidioute until 1962. He was also employed at Cooper Bessemer in Grove City.
Harold owned and operated Burke's Auto Body, a state inspection garage. He enjoyed restoring antique cars and trucks and was especially fond of taking his 1957 Dodge sweepside pickup to various car shows.
Always a hard worker and willing to lend a helping hand, Harold was a highly-respected carpenter and building contractor. He and Joanne enjoyed the two homes he built, a ranch style and log home. He also was employed as a subcontractor for Howard Fisher Representative Ridge Homes. He was an active lifelong member of East Unity United Presbyterian Church, where he served as president of EUP cemetery and was an active elder.
Harold and Joanne were actively involved with World Gospel Missions Men with Vision. They participated in numerous work missions throughout the U.S., Paraguay, Honduras and Mexico. They dedicated hundreds of hours of volunteer service to the Kentucky Mountain Bible College and also New Life International in Indiana.
Harold is survived by his wife, Joanne; his daughters, Gina (Richard) Traister of Fletcher, N.C., Janet L. (Doug) Elder of Emlenton, and Jill A. (Randall) Austin of Emlenton; and his son, Harold G. Jr. (Ron Walcott) of Boardman, Ohio; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Mary Burke and Shirley Burke; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sons, Bryan and Daniel Burke; his brothers, Floyd, Samuel and Paul Burke; and his sister, Margaret “Peg” Rankin.
BURKE — Friends of Harold Glenn Burke, who died Monday, May 1, 2017, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S. Washington St., Eau Claire.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Unity Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley, Butler County. Interment will follow at East Unity Cemetery.
