Dr. John Salvatore Bonando

Dr. John Salvatore Bonando, 60, of Cranberry Township passed away Monday surrounded by his family.

Born Dec. 31, 1956, in Elizabeth, N.J., he was the son of Rose Tavormina Bonando and the late Salvatore John Bonando.

Dr. Bonando retired April 1, 2016, as the assistant vice president of student services at Slippery Rock University after 31 years of service. He was the director of emergency management for Slippery Rock Township. He served on the board of directors and as vice president for Slippery Rock Development. He also served on the board of directors for the Butler County Department of Emergency Services and as vice chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee on the Butler County Commissioners Advisory Council. Dr. Bonando was chapter adviser of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity as well. In his free time, he enjoyed the beach, scuba diving and collecting guns and watches.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Rita Byrnes Bonando; his daughters, Cara Bonando of Pittsburgh, Lauren Bonando of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lindsey Bonando of Altoona; his sisters, Maryellen (Steve) Carroll of Flemington, N.J., and Judi (Jerry) Pecoraro of Clark, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.

BONANDO — Friends of Dr. John Salvatore Bonando, who died Monday, May 1, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Boylan Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, 2535 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township.Everyone please meet at church.Memorial donations may be made to the John S. Bonando Student Leadership Scholarship, c/o the SRU Alumni Association, 105 Campus Drive, Slippery Rock, PA 16057.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
