BUTLER TWP — A man who caused concern among parents at Butler High School on Tuesday by handing out fliers in the school’s parking lot after class has been cited for criminal trespass by police and told not to return to the campus.

Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said the man, Gary Ciangiarulo, 57, of Butler told police he has 30 years of experience as a photographer, and was just looking for work when he went onto the school’s campus Tuesday afternoon.

Ciangiarulo apparently passed out fliers for his services that featured pictures of young women and offered a photography session with him for $30. When students reported the encounter to their parents both the school district and police were alerted, said Acting Superintendent William Pettigrew.

Hays said the department had identified Ciangiarulo on Wednesday, but it wasn’t until Thursday that officers were able to speak with him about the matter. Hays said that Ciangiarulo was cooperative, but the department informed him that what he had done was unacceptable.

“It was basically in no uncertain terms that he is not to go back onto school property,” Hays said.

The department also cited Ciangiarulo for trespass, a summary violation that includes a fine.
