[naviga:h3]Broad Street school evacuated Tuesday[/naviga:h3]

Broad Street Elementary School was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after a reported smell of gas near the playground, though nothing was found.

The 200 students, teachers and other employees went to nearby Emily Brittain Elementary School around 1:30 p.m. and stayed until dismissal at 3:30 p.m.

A Peoples Gas employee was called to investigate the property and no other buildings or homes were evacuated.

Nothing was detected and the school resumed normal operations today.

The Broad Street pupils are from the temporarily-closed Summit Township Elementary School.

[naviga:h3]Winfield VFC starts annual fund drive[/naviga:h3]

WINFIELD TWP — The Winfield Township Volunteer Fire Company is holding its annual fund drive.

The fire company sent letters to area residents, property owners and businesses.

Those who did not receive a request and want to donate can mail a donation to: Winfield Twp. VFC, P.O. Box 281, Cabot, PA 16023.

[naviga:h3]Carry applications to halt for upgrade[/naviga:h3]

Butler County Sheriff Mike Slupe is notifying residents that his office will not be accepting any applications for a License to Carry (gun permits) beginning Thursday through 8:30 a.m. Monday.

The Pennsylvania State Police Firearms Division is making major changes to the License To Carry system. According to Slupe, these upgrades are necessary to keep the LTC application process up to date with the newest technology and streamline the process.
