Man, 56, accused of simple assault
Anger over his girlfriend taking too long in the bathroom may have been enough to set off a 56-year-old Butler man, city police said.
Richard John Dortman is accused of attacking the woman and allegedly threatening to kill her during a suspected domestic fracas Wednesday morning at the couple's home in the 300 block of West North Street.
Police later arrested Dortman, who is in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail. He is charged with simple assault.
The alleged victim, 36-year-old Lili Szymecki, suffered minor injuries including scratches on one arm and bruises on the other one, police said.
She called 911 after the incident. Officers said when they got to the home, she appeared “disheveled.”
Szymecki told police that Dortman became angry about 5:30 a.m. and started yelling at her “for spending too much time in the bathroom,” according to court documents.
When she eventually emerged from the bathroom, she walked into the bedroom. Her boyfriend apparently was not far behind.
He continued yelling at her, documents said, and began throwing things.
The defendant grabbed her, Szymecki recounted, threw her to the floor, and told her he was going to kill her.
Officers took Dortman to the station to be processed. While being placed in a holding cell, police said, he made an unsolicited statement: “Now I am going to kill her.”
