Ruth Verda Werner
Ruth Verda Werner, 99, of Galilee Road, North Beaver Township, Lawrence County, passed away Wednesday at her home following a short illness.
Born March 26, 1918, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Hazel Youkers Herold. She was married June 29, 1938, to Walter C. Werner. They were married for 49 years when he died Feb. 6, 1983.
Ruth was a member and former Sunday school teacher at the Moravia Presbyterian Church. She is well remembered for selling her vegetables at the farm stand on Route 168. Ruth enjoyed people, cooking, baking, crocheting and playing cards. The farm was a special place to go.
Survivors include her daughter, Charlotte (the Rev. Jim) Legge of Slippery Rock; two sons, Charles (Linda) Werner of New Galilee, Pa., and Thomas (Lynn) Werner of Bessemer, Pa.; two sisters, Veva McConnell of North Beaver Township and Hazel Jane Webb of Butler; her brother, Walter (Sally) Herold of Princeton, Pa.; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kevin; her grandson, Tommy Werner; three sisters, Edna Kelly, Pearl Daufen and Cora Elizabeth Herold; and three brothers, Lawrence “Sonny,” Joe and Clarence Ed Herold.
WERNER — Visiting hours for Ruth Verda Werner, who died Wednesday, April 19, 2017, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Marshall Funeral Home, 341 Main St., Wampum. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with her son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. W. James Legge, and her pastor, the Rev. Dr. David Clark, officiating.
