Student charged with assault
SUMMIT TWP — A student was arrested after state police say he attacked two staff members at the Summit Academy reform school.
Kenan M. Johnson, 18, of suburban Baltimore is in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail. He faces felony assault and other charges.
Troopers were called to the school on Herman Road in Summit Township for the altercation involving a student and employees about 8:15 a.m. Monday, state police said.
The facility program director recounted that Johnson's refusal to go to class apparently sparked the incident, according to court documents.
Three staff members found the teenager standing in the hallway, not in the classroom where he belonged. When the employees tried to move him along, he allegedly screamed profanities.
Moments later, documents said, the standoff turned violent.
Johnson is accused of pushing Charles Johnson, no relation, three times, once in the head, and hitting Allen Lane in the throat.
A Summit Academy spokesman Thursday said neither employee was injured. He declined further comment about the incident.
Johnson was arraigned on two counts each of aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment. His preliminary hearing is set for May 23 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora.
Summit Academy is a school for court-adjudicated youth and young adults, ages 14 to 19.
