Robert L. Wehr

Robert L. Wehr, 87, of Portersville passed away Sunday at his home, surrounded by his family, after an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 3, 1929, at home in Zelienople, and graduated from Zelienople High School in 1946, where he played football and met his beautiful bride, June Larson. They married Nov. 29, 1952, and were together until her death in 1989.

Bob became vice president of engineering for Billco Manufacturing and invented many patented products in the flat glass industry. He continued his engineering and product management career with Matthews Conveyor Systems and then Rexnord Industries, traveling globally to support its products.

In 1975, he left corporate life and founded Bear Run Campground in Portersville. With his wife, parents and sons, he converted 58 acres of pasture fields into a thriving camping resort. For the past 42 years, his passion has been to provide a family-centered vacation destination for tens of thousands of traveling outdoor enthusiasts.

Bob was a member of Rotary International and held the honor of Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as a board member of the Christian Athletic Association. He volunteered at the Pine Valley Bible Camp in Ellwood City and helped to build its early facilities. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Portersville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June; his parents, Lester and Dorothy Wehr; and his sister, Mary Alice Kelly.

He is survived by his sons, Keith of Portersville, and Todd and Craig (Judy), both of Cranberry Township; and his grandchildren, Christine, Lauren, Grant, Andrew and Morgan. Also surviving are his sister, Lois Chappell; his brother, Roy Wehr of Plant City, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

The Wehr family would like to thank Denise Herbe and her amazing staff of caregivers for the loving support they provided Bob in his final years.

WEHR — The family of Robert L. Wehr, who died Sunday, April 16, 2017, will welcome friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the English Lutheran Church, 200 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. Dana Opp officiating. Friends please meet at the church. Bob will be laid to rest at the English Lutheran Church Cemetery in Zelienople.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pine Valley Bible Camp, 504 Chapel Drive, Ellwood City, PA 16117 in Memory of Robert Wehr.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with Bob's family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
