Butler police say an Allegheny County man was holding nearly two dozen bags of heroin after he ran from officers last week.

Keith T. Hohman, 26, of Tarentum also was wanted on two warrants.

Hohman managed to elude an officer's Taser but his would-be getaway May 10 failed and he landed in the Butler County Prison on several charges.

On Monday, he waived those charges — resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and false identification to police — to court.

Police said they found Hohman shortly after noon inside a Jeep at a city-owned parking lot on East Diamond Street. A call for two men in the vehicle possibly shooting heroin sent officers there, according to court documents.

While police were speaking to the driver outside of the vehicle, they noticed Hohman, who was in the passenger seat, acting “extremely nervous,” according to documents.

He subsequently gave police bogus information and refused to get out of the Jeep. Moments later, he made a run for it.

The suspect jumped over the center console and out the driver's side door, even as one of the officer's fired his Taser, police said. But the probes missed and Hohman kept on running eastbound.

He didn't get far.

Another officer chased him over a wall, across South McKean Street and down a hillside, documents said, before eventually nabbing Hohman.

It was not his first try to get away from law enforcement authorities.

Police would later learn that he was wanted by the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office on an arrest warrant for escape in connection with an April 29 incident and he was wanted on a bench warrant in Allegheny County, court records showed.

City officers said that when they searched Hohman, they found 23 stamp bags of suspected heroin, three used syringes and a Suboxone strip

He is in the county prison on $15,000 bail.
