SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A 23-year-old township man was shot late last night.

State police are investigating but they have no suspects and few clues. They're hoping the public can help them solve the case.

The victim, who police have not identified, was treated at Grove City Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the right side following the shooting about 10:30 p.m. on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township.

He was later released and spoke to investigators at the barracks in Butler Township, Trooper Christopher Balcik said this morning.

The unknown suspect, described as being a white man, 6 feet, 5 inches to 6 feet, 6 inches tall with a large build, had possibly been arguing with a woman when the victim tried to intervene.

“He heard a scuffle and went to investigate and to render aid,” Balcik said of the victim.

Moments later, according to the victim's account, the suspect brandished a handgun and fired a shot.

The altercation happened on or adjacent to the road, but police have found no witnesses. They also have not identified the woman who may have been arguing with the suspect.

After being shot, the victim, who lives nearby, said he was able to knock down the gunman and flee. A family member later drove him to the hospital.

The victim suffered a “through-and-through” gunshot wound, Balcik said. Police searched the area but could not find a casing or slug.

The suspect, who was wearing camouflage pants and a white T-shirt, also fled on foot after the shooting. It was not known if he eventually made his getaway in a vehicle.
