CRANBERRY TWP — A Greensburg woman has been charged with impersonating a public servant after allegedly using her old Westmoreland County sheriff's badge to get out of a speeding ticket on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Amanda Barbish, 37, was pulled over by state police April 18 for speeding on the Turnpike, according to court papers.

Barbish flashed her Westmoreland County sheriff's badge, according to the report, but could not produce her deputy sheriff's certification ID card because she said her son had been playing with it the night before.

The trooper let her go as a “professional courtesy” but, according to court papers, found later that day from an Internet search of Barbish's name that she had filed a lawsuit against the Westmoreland County Sheriff's office and had not worked there since July 2015.

The next day the same trooper pulled Barbish over on the Turnpike in Cranberry for speeding and she again flashed her badge, according to documents.

This time, however, the trooper called the Westmoreland County Sheriff's office and confirmed that Barbish no longer worked as a deputy, police said. When she gave the trooper her sheriff's ID card, it had expired in March 2016.

When the trooper told her she no longer worked for the sheriff's office, Barbish seemed surprised, police said. The trooper confiscated her badge and ID card.

Barbish was also charged with speeding and theft for taking the Westmoreland County Deputy Sheriff's badge and ID card. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 23 before District Judge David Kovach.
