A Butler man accused of stabbing another man during a fight at Walmart will be heading to county court after the charges against him were waived on Thursday.

Justin D. Woods, 20, was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct and summary harassment after an incident outside of the store just after midnight on April 28.

The charges were waived to Butler County Court during a scheduled preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell on Thursday. He is scheduled for formal arraignment in county court on June 20 before county Judge Tim McCune.

Butler Township police filed the charges after Woods allegedly stabbed Alex Dorenkamp, 19, of Chicora during a fight. The fight allegedly began following an incident the previous night between the two men, who then met by chance at the store, police said.

Dorenkamp apparently believed Woods had run his girlfriend off the road in Butler in a traffic incident, authorities said. Woods denied the accusation, saying the incident involved his asking out Dorenkamp's girlfriend. He said he did not know at the time that she and Dorenkamp were a couple.

During the fight, Dorenkamp allegedly punched Woods and slammed him into a wall. Woods admitted that he pulled a knife and stabbed Dorenkamp, and then called 911 to report the stabbing.

When police got to the store, they found Dorenkamp lying in the parking lot bleeding, several parking spaces away from the front of the store's grocery entrance. Dorenkamp needed hospital treatment for a knife wound to the stomach, authorities said. Woods suffered minor injuries to the head, face and arms.

Woods was placed in the Butler County Prison and released later that day after posting $5,000 bail.

Police seized the alleged weapon, which they described as an 8-inch folding knife with a 3-inch serrated blade.

Dorenkamp is charged by summons with misdemeanor simple assault, disorderly conduct and summary harassment. He is facing a preliminary hearing on June 8.
