Drug awareness walk draws a big crowd
More than 250 people participated in a drug awareness walk through Butler this morning.
The Walk of Hope, which started at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m. and went up Main Street, was organized by the Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church's Hope for Broken Hearts support group.
Organizer Charlene Eckert said this year's theme was recovery.
Eckert said the message being sent was that people suffering from addiction are not alone.
The walk stopped in front of the Butler County Courthouse and then the Butler County Prison.
Recovering addicts gave testimonials saying there is always hope.
Young and old carried signs with such messages as “Take Back Our Town,” “Recovery's Possible” and “Walk of Hope.”
