A West North Street apartment kitchen fire forces dozens of tenants to briefly evacuate the building.
A kitchen fire in a West North Street apartment Friday afternoon forced more than a dozen tenants of the building to briefly evacuate the building.
City firefighters were called to the building at 427 W. North St., shortly before 1 p.m., for what firefighters Capt. Kevin McAfee called a kitchen fire in an apartment on the building's second floor. McAfee said the fire did heavy damage to the apartment's kitchen, and left the residence unlivable. The Red Cross has been contacted to help the tenant, whose name wasn't immediately released.
