Redevelopment authority to move to new office space

The Butler Redevelopment Authority is getting a new home at the city's Tier Garage, in office space formerly occupied by Butler County Adult Probation.

Council members voted unanimously Thursday to approve a lease between the city and the authority that would allow the organization to move into office space at the garage. The lease specifies that no rent will be paid by the authority, gives the authority the power to sublease its office space in the garage to the Butler Downtown group, and specifies that any improvements to the garage offices will be paid for fully by the authority.

The lease agreement comes as former executive director Art Cordwell confirmed that the group has received an offer on its current home at 115 E. Cunningham St. The board voted last year to sell the building, but only recently received an offer from an interested buyer.

Cordwell would not discuss the specifics of the offer or the identity of the buyer, but said that the authority wants to move forward with closing the sale within 30 days of its next meeting, where it would have to approve any deal to sell the Cunningham Street building.
