Andy “Hi-speed” Grinnik

Andy “Hi-speed” Grinnik, 92, of Passavant Retirement Home in Zelienople died Sunday afternoon at the VNA Inpatient Hospice following a four-month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born March 21, 1925, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Samuel and Anna Keyko Grinnik.

Andy had enlisted in the U.S. Army when World War II started and was a member of the 300th Combat Engineers. He saw action in the European Theater from D-Day until the end of the war.

He retired at the age of 62 from the Armco Steel Plant in Butler and was a member of St. Andrew Orthodox Church in Lyndora and the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.

He was fiercely devoted to his wife of 62 years and his family. He loved to travel with his wife and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a skilled handyman, and, in later years, he exhibited a surprising talent for painting.

His family would like to thank the nurses of the Passavant Retirement Home and the VNA Inpatient Hospice for their outstanding care.

Surviving are his son, Wayne (Linda) Grinnik of Economy, Pa.; his daughter, Deborah (Michael) Gaio of Arizona; his grandchildren, Brian (Kate) Grinnik of Economy, Pa., Kimberly (Shawn) Shillingburg of Rochester, Pa., and Heather (Duke) Williams of Economy, Pa.; his great-grandchildren, Alissa, Nick, Chris, Logan and Grace; his brother, Stephen Grinnik of New Castle; his three sisters, Sophie (Larry) McCandless of Florida, Helen (Dick) Daller of Lyndora and Alice DiAmatto of Virginia; his one sister-in-law, Florence Grinnik of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Czap Grinnik; three brothers, Tony Grenek, Sam Grenek and Jack Grinnik; and three sisters, Mary Fudoli, Ann Ordy and Olga Pellegrini.

GRINNIK — Friends of Andy “Hi-speed” Grinnik, who died Sunday, March 26, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Paisius McGrath will officiate.
