Willis R. Schnur

Willis R. Schnur, 86, of Butler died peacefully Saturday at his home surrounded by his family.

Born Sept. 12, 1930, in Butler, he was a son of the late William and Anna Spohn Schnur.

Willis was owner and operator of Schnur’s Greenhouse in Herman for 50 years, a business which his grandfather started in 1889.

He was a lifetime member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Men’s Club, the Butler Moose, American Legion Post 117, VFW Post 249, the East Butler Volunteer Fire Association, the Herman Volunteer Fire Association and the Fryburg Sportsmens Club.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, serving in the 112th Infantry.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 65 years, Kathryn “Babs” Kuciak Schnur, whom he married June 21, 1952; his children, James (Cindy) Schnur of Herman, Barbara (Richard) Massella of Butler, Anna (Gregory) Angert of Butler, Jerome (Lisa) Schnur of Chicora and Marlene (Roy) Thomas of Herman; his grandchildren, Gregory (Linsey) Schnur, Scott (Rachel) Schnur, Roman Schnur, Levi Schnur, Samantha Schnur, Aubrey Schnur, Michael LeGrand, Brittany LeGrand and Dakota Thomas; his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Olivia, Will, Caleb and Braylon; his brother, Kenneth (Nancy) Schnur; and his in-laws, Arthur Miller, Agnes Widenhofer and Eileen Kuciak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, five sisters and one great-grandson.

SCHNUR — Friends of Willis R. Schnur, who died Saturday, March 25, 2017, will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.
