The 2nd annual Patti J. Nelson Memorial 5K and Fun Run/Walk saw 177 runners and walkers on Saturday traversing “the loop” where Nelson regularly walked her dogs.

Nelson died in 2015 after a battle with cancer.

Her husband, Jim Nelson, said more than $9,000 was raised during the event. All proceeds benefit the Patti J. Nelson Foundation, which helps support the Evans City Public Library.

Nelson said many of those who ran or walked on Saturday were friends and relatives of his late wife, who he said would be thrilled with the event because it benefits her beloved library.

Nelson said participants start at his house on Old Route 68 and proceed on Community Park Road, Needlepoint Drive and Dufford Road before completing the loop back at the Nelson home.
