EAST FRANKLIN TWP, Armstrong County — An apparent robbery gone wrong Saturday afternoon left a Georgia man hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the face and state police searching for two suspects.

The shooting, which is being investigated as an attempted homicide, happened shortly after 4 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of East Brady Road in East Franklin Township.

The suspects approached the 33-year-old victim, from Atlanta, who was in the driveway. Investigators say the two men tried to rob the other man.

One of the suspects fired a round from an unspecified gun, hitting the victim in the face, according to a police report.

The two men drove away in a car that was last seen headed south on Route 268.

Police said they have identified suspects in the shooting, but did not release their names. Lt. Daniel Hines noted this morning that arrests were not imminent.

“There are still a lot of unanswered questions that we have to get to the bottom of,” he said.

A medical helicopter following Saturday’s shooting flew the Atlanta man, who police did not identify, to an undisclosed Pittsburgh hospital. He is intubated and in stable condition, authorities said.

Police said they have conducted a number of interviews but they are releasing few details about their investigation.

Hines acknowledged that “drug-related items” were found at the scene but he would not say if the shooting was believed to be drug-related.

Investigators following the shooting did arrest the man who lives at the house when they learned he was wanted on three warrants in Butler County. He is charged in one of the warrants for shooting a gun outside a Butler home last year.

Trimayne K. Franklin, 30, who lives at the house, fled out the back door during the incident, police said. Troopers found him at a neighbor’s house.

He was arrested on the unrelated warrants and placed in the Armstrong County Jail.

Butler police have been looking for Franklin since March 15, 2016, when he allegedly fired a gun after trying to break into a home on Sumner Avenue.

Adams Township police since 2012 have also had an arrest warrant for Franklin in connection with a felony drug case, court records showed.

Additionally, he was wanted on a bench warrant for failing to appear at a hearing in Butler County Court for a probation violation hearing in connection with his conviction in a 2011 felony drug case.
