The winners of Butler County’s premier community award will be announced next month at the Butler Country Club at an event sponsored by the Rotary Club of Butler and the Butler Eagle.

The picks are in for this year’s Distinguished Service Awards, but the two selections for the 68th installment of the community service honors won’t be made public for two more weeks.

The award has been a tradition in Butler County for nearly seven decades, as the Rotary club and the Eagle seek to honor those who give of their free time to help improve the community.

Two people are selected each year to receive the award. The senior Distinguished Service Award goes to a person older than 45, and the junior award goes to a person between the ages of 25 and 45.

Selections are made each year by a committee of former award winners, who comb through candidates nominated by business owners and community members in search of individuals whose volunteer contributions stand out. This year the committee reviewed 17 nominees, said Rotary club president Millie Pinkerton.

This year’s selections will be announced at the DSA Dinner on May 3 at the country club.

This is the award’s 68th year. Last year’s recipients were Pamela Ambrose, who was honored for her work with the Girl Scouts, and Gerri Paulisick, who was honored for her work with the nonprofit Candle Inc., Butler School District and Emily Brittain Elementary School.
