Woman pleads guilty to filing false taxes

PITTSBURGH — A Valencia woman charged by federal prosecutors with mail fraud, and filing a false tax return pleaded guilty to those charges this week in U.S. District Court.

Pamela Vivirito, 47, entered the guilty plea on Thursday, after federal prosecutors charged her with one count of filing a false tax return in 2014. Prosecutors say Vivirito, who ran a nonprofit group called Equine Angels Rescue, failed to report more than $46,000 collected by the group in 2013.

The group was supposed to use the funds to rescue and rehabilitate horses, but federal prosecutors say Vivirito instead used a portion of the donations for personal expenses.

Vivirito, who in 2015 was charged with attempting to extort two people by threatening to expose sexual affairs she allegedly conducted with them, is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20 by a federal judge in Pittsburgh.

Prosecutors say she faces up to 23 years in prison and a fine of $500,000.
