SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University has added another unique doctoral degree to its course offerings, the State System of Higher Education announced Thursday.

The university’s doctoral degree program in occupational therapy was approved by the system’s board of governors, in a move Chancellor Frank T. Brogan said aligned with the system’s ongoing internal study of lagging enrollment and possible staff cuts or school consolidations.

“They are further examples of how our universities are redesigning their curricula to address the emerging and future needs of students, their future employers and the Commonwealth,” Brogan said in a news release announcing the program’s approval.

The SRU program is the only occupational therapy doctorate offered by a state system school, and is a 36-month, year-round program for students who hold a bachelor’s degree or are enrolled in one of SRU’s pre-occupational therapy programs.

The university will begin offering the degree program in June of 2018.
