Homer Phillip Eckstein
Homer Phillip Eckstein, 87, of Harmony passed away of natural causes Feb. 26 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
Born July 31, 1929, in Penn Township, he was the son of the late Stuart P. Eckstein and Elizabeth S. Guenther Eckstein.
Homer was a lifetime carpenter and farmer. He loved animals and enjoyed farming from childhood right through his 87th birthday. He also was a foster parent for 25 years.
He is survived by six children, Claudia Kelley of Slippery Rock, Douglas (Jennifer) Eckstein of York, Valerie (Mark) Kline of Evans City, Edwin (Cindy) Eckstein of Harmony, Brian (Connie) Eckstein of Mars and Simone Eckstein of Pittsburgh; Doug (Deb) Marshall of Prospect, foster children and their children; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his dog, Lucy.
In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jean D. Anderson Eckstein, who he married June 21, 1951, and who died June 12, 2011; his daughter, April Eckstein; his son-in-law, Ron Kelley; his granddaughter-in-law, Kalle Convery-Kelley; and his great-granddaughter, Aidan Kelley.
ECKSTEIN — A celebration of life for Homer Phillip Eckstein, who died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017, will be from 2 to 5 p.m. March 18 at the Eckstein Farm Pavilion, 134 Eckstein Lane, Harmony.
