PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh and Allegheny County police are sorting out a reported abduction attempt that played out in the city and one of its suburbs, and left the alleged perpetrator dead.

That man, whose name hasn’t been released, reportedly was found dead in a car in Swissvale. Authorities say he had killed himself.

The chain of events began about 2:30 a.m. today with a report that the man had abducted a woman and her child from their home Pittsburgh’s crime-ridden Homewood neighborhood. Both were later found unharmed.

Police found the dead suspect in the course of their investigation.

County police are now the lead investigators because of the multiple jurisdictions involved.
