SLIPPERY ROCK — The interim dean for Slippery Rock University’s College of Health, Environment and Science has been named to the position permanently.

Jerry Chmielewski, who joined SRU’s faculty in 1990 as an assistant professor, had been named interim dean following the retirement of dean Susan Hannam.

Chmielewski had previously served as acting associate dean of SRU’s College of Arts and Sciences, and was chairman of the university’s Department of Biology for nearly two decades.

He also helped the school develop its recently added physician assistant program, which school officials have pegged as one of the drivers of SRU’s recent enrollment increases.
