Marie Bowser Rice
Marie Bowser Rice, 93, of Butler passed away Thursday at Chicora Medical Center.
She was born May 7, 1923, in Dayton, Pa., to the late Lewis J. Bowser and the late Bertha Shaffer Bowser.

Rice graduated from Butler High School on June 6, 1940, and from Butler Business College in July 1941.
She was employed at the Deshon General Hospital as a civilian working for the U.S. Army for three years, before it became the VA Hospital in Butler, from which she retired as the director of personnel on Dec. 31, 1983, having been employed there for more than 35 years.
Marie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, General Richard Butler Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was a past regent of the chapter, the State Officers Club of Pennsylvania DAR and the Woman's Club of Butler. She also was a former member and past president of Quota Club and the former national adviser to the National Association of Government Employees at the local VA Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan E. Rollins and her husband, David, of Pittsburgh; one daughter-in-law, Karen Rice; and one grandson, Jonathan L. Rice.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John V. Rice; one brother; and two sisters.
RICE — Friends of Marie Bowser Rice, who died Thursday, March 2, 2017, will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will immediately follow at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev.
