Chalmers Campbell Howard

Chalmers Campbell Howard

Chalmers Campbell Howard, 73, of New Cumberland passed away Jan. 13.

The son of the late George Edwin Howard Jr. and Margaret Barnett Boyd Howard of Butler, he also was preceded in death by his brother, George Howard; and his sister, Margaret Johnson, who is the twin of Charles Boyd Howard.

Chalmers attended Penn Township schools, then Knoch High School, but he graduated from Butler High School in 1962.

After brief employment with Union Telegraph and the State Library in Harrisburg, he settled into a lengthy career with AMP in Harrisburg, from which he retired in 1998.

Never without a “project,” Chalmers always enjoyed the company of family and friends, spending leisure time bicycling, camping and walking in the woods, documenting the family genealogy, exploring sustainable living and permaculture concepts and constantly sharing his passion for music.

Chal leaves behind his daughter, Lynn Howard of Edgewater, Md.; his son, Boyd (Melissa) Howard of Camp Hill, Pa.; two grandchildren; and a host of nephews, extended family and friends.

He will be lovingly remembered by the many people he touched and influenced throughout his life. His eagerness to exchange ideas, often late into the night, will be sorely missed.
