BUFFALO TWP — A suspected shoplifter is accused of putting filet mignon under his clothing at a local grocery store.

But the motive of Casey A. McClure last week was not because he was hungry. Rather, according to Buffalo Township police, he swiped the steaks, valued at $30, to sell for some quick money.

“He said he thought he could get $25 for them,” police Sgt. Rick Healey said.

Police on Monday charged McClure, 34, of Buffalo Township with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

A loss prevention officer at the Buffalo Plaza Giant Eagle on Route 356 was on the job about 6:15 p.m. March 22 when he allegedly spotted the suspect take the steaks, according to court documents.

The employee recounted that McClure paid for one item at the cash register before walking toward the exit doors. That’s where he was stopped, police said.

He was taken into the store office where he admitted taking the meat, which police identified as filet mignon and Delmonico steaks.

Healey said the store had to discard the merchandise.

McClure’s preliminary hearing is set for May 3 at the office of District Judge Sue Haggerty in Saxonburg.
