Jury selected in police ambush caseWEST CHESTER — Jury selection is finished in the trial of a man accused of fatally shooting a state trooper and wounding another in an ambush outside their rural barracks.Prosecutors and defense attorneys picked the last two alternate jurors on Tuesday.The jury will weigh murder charges against 33-year-old Eric Frein. He’s charged with killing Cpl. Bryon Dickson II and critically wounding Trooper Alex Douglass in a late-night attack outside the Blooming Grove barracks in northeastern Pennsylvania. Frein led authorities on a 48-day manhunt in the Pocono Mountains before his capture by U.S. Marshals.He could face a death sentence if he’s convicted.
Veterans’ pictures sought for projectANNVILLE — Pennsylvania’s Military and Veterans Department is seeking photos of 105 service members who were killed in the Vietnam War.It’s part of a project tied to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund in Washington and includes posting the photos of those whose names are etched in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall on a virtual wall of faces.The state has obtained 3,151 photos, but 105 are still missing.A list of Pennsylvania Vietnam Veterans whose photos are still needed can be found at www.veterans.pa.gov. Teen found shot on playgroundPENN HILLS — Authorities say a 17-year-old was shot and killed on a playground.Allegheny County officials say a shooting was reported near Linton Middle School in Penn Hills just after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.The victim was found shot on a playground and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name wasn’t released. students had already been dismissed for the day from the school.County homicide detectives are assisting police in the investigation.
