Mary Helen Demeter Madison

Mary Helen Demeter Madison, 93, of Caspter, Wyo., passed away March 4 in her home.

She was born Jan. 15, 1924, to Julius Demeter and Teresa Varga in Zelienople. Mary graduated from Zelienople High School in 1942 and received a registered nursing degree from Butler Community College in Butler in 1947.

While working at Cook County Memorial Hospital in Chicago, she met and married the late Lawrence Valentine Madison. They lived in various places in the Rocky Mountain area before finally settling in Casper, Wyoming in 1967.

Mary worked as a registered nurse until she retired in 1974. Her various places of employment included working as an ER nurse, and on hospital medical and surgical floors. Her last place of employment was Poplar Living Center where she served as an evening charge nurse.

Mary enjoyed nature, gardening, crocheting, reading and the company of her family along with her various pets. Sophie, a Maltese with an attitude, was Mary's constant companion for the last 10 years. Sophie was by her side when Mary passed.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Teresa; her brothers, Frank and Julius; her sister, Elizabeth; her husband, Lawrence; and her eldest daughter, Teresa.

Mary is survived by three children, Claudia Madison of Casper, Wyo., David (Sasha) Madison of Houston, Texas, and Cynthia Madison of Casper, Wyo.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Eric Pollard of Albuquerque, N.M., Laura Pollard of Spearfish, S.D., Sarah (Tony) Pennington of Edmond, Okla., Brian Madison of Austin, Texas, Azkar, Marquesa and Zach Madison of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandchildren of Edmond, Okla.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice of Casper for helping to make Mary's passing peaceful.
