SUMMIT TWP — A blaze destroyed a detached garage on Hinchberger Road Tuesday night.

Chief Rob McLafferty of the Herman Volunteer Fire Company said the 28-foot-by-44-foot garage at 142 Hinchberger Road and its contents, including an antique vehicle, could not be saved.

“It was fully involved when the first truck arrived,” he said.

No one was injured. The owners' names were unavailable.

A cause was not determined.

“There was too much damage,” McLafferty said.

However, he said there was no evidence of foul play.

McLafferty said the nearby house sustained heat damage to windows and the siding.

He estimated damages for the structure and most of its contents, which included a lawn mower and air compressor, at $54,000. He did not know the model or have a value for the vehicle.

After responding to the 5:25 p.m. 911 call, crews doused the fire using a water and foam mix within 15 minutes.

Roughly 30 firefighters responded to the call. The Lick Hill, Saxonburg and South Butler volunteer fire departments as well as Saxonburg and East Butler ambulance companies assisted at the scene.

Crews cleared the scene at 6:54 p.m.

The fire reignited a little later, prompting a 7:53 p.m. 911 call.

McLafferty said some debris caught fire.

“It was just a small amount of rekindling in the back corner of the garage,” he said.
