James Stitt

James Stitt, 96, of Slippery Rock passed away Saturday at Amity Senior Living in Slippery Rock.

He was born Feb. 29, 1920, in Slippery Rock Township on the family farm where he lived his entire life, to Howard Heilman Stitt and Cora Janette Lafferty Stitt.

James was a lifelong farmer and a member of the North Liberty Presbyterian Church. He had formerly attended the Keenagers in Portersville. His life was coon dogs and horses. He had coon-hunted on a mule in later years and he had good coon dogs and good horses.

He is survived by two nephews, William H. Drake of Transfer, Pa., and Timothy D. Wise of Harmony; two nieces, Barbara Drake Cummings of Volant, Pa., and Sharon S. Shannon of Greenville, Pa.; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Katherine Still Wise; his brother-in-law, David C. Wise; his sister, Vera G. Drake; and his brother-in-law, Clarence R. Drake.

STITT — Family of James Stitt, who died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Britton, pastor of West Sunbury Church of the Nazarene, presiding. Interment will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery.
