On Thursday, March 9, 2017, a bear was spotted in an oak tree on McBride Hill Road in Penn Township, near the park-and-ride lot at Route 8 and Renfrew Road. Doug Roth, a township supervisor and road superintendent, said the bear tore down a bird feeder Thursday night. On his way to work Friday morning, Roth said he saw the perched bear — “He’s probably 30 feet up there.” There currently are no plans to address the situation, and a spokesman for the Pennsylvania Game Commission said that unless there is a threat to the safety of the bear or the public, it is best not to intervene.KIM PASKORZ/BUTLER EAGLE
